As any Hot Dog Enthusiast knows the United States is known for many regional versions of the Chili or Coney Dog. The Detroit Style is considered the Original Coney Dog. Many say it is the Best Hot Dog in America! And it is not named after Coney Island in New York. Do some internet searching and you will learn about this Iconic Hot Dog Creation and it's Origin.
Until now the only way to acquire Detroit Coney Sauce was to visit one of the Great Detroit Landmark Establishments by traveling to Michigan, or Ordering it Frozen Online and having it shipped to your Home.
Well after years of trial and error Russ Jackson has come up with a
successful
version that you can make at home using up to 3 1/2 Lbs of 80/20 Ground Beef and 4 1/2 Cups of Water.
You Can Easily Divide This Recipe In Half For A Smaller Portion.
This makes a really good sized pot of sauce.
Directions for Coney Sauce are simple:
Bring 4 1/2 cups of water to a boil in a Medium Sized Dutch Oven or Covered Pot.
Place 3 to 3 1/2 lbs of 80/20 Ground Beef into the boiling water.
Bring up to a boil stirring
regularly
.
Add 1/2 Cup Detroit Coney Mix and stir until incorporated.
Reduce to Simmer and Cover.
Simmer for 20 minutes stirring occasionally.
After 20 minutes Remove Cover and add Remaining 1/2 Cup Detroit Coney Mix.
Stir to incorporate and return to simmer Uncovered.
Simmer for additional 20 minutes or until desired
consistency
is
achieved
.

and works for all Detroit Classics Such As:
Coney Fries, Coney Loose Burger, Coney
Omelette, or Mix some Velveeta in and melt it for a great Dip! You can also enjoy it in a bowl topped with diced Onions and Yellow Mustard. There is even a Pizza Place in Toledo that tops a Pizza with Coney Sauce.
